History 20—Local History Project—Overview/Details of First Assignment

During the semester, you will create a podcast and develop an ePortfolio about a location in New York City—or a place you can visit--which relates to a person in the Hall of Fame for Great Americans.  The location can be a place where the person lived, worked, or spoke, for example, or a place named after him or her.  The podcast will discuss the history of the location and its significance to the life and/or legacy of the person in the Hall of Fame. The final podcast will be between 3-6 minutes long.  The e-Portfolio will house the podcast, the script of the podcast and other preliminary assignments, a list of sources about the location and the person in the Hall of Fame, images of and directions to the location, and your reflection as to what you learned during the course of the assignment.

Over the course of the semester you will complete a series of assignments to help you develop the podcast and e-Portfolio.  You will conduct research into the history of the location, find pictures of it, create a bibliography of sources, write a draft of the podcast script, and eventually present their podcasts and e-Portfolio’s to the class.

Don’t panic about the technology angle—students will have lots of opportunity for training and the school offers several sources of technical support.
