The Brotherhood of Minisink Boys

I am the Direct Facilitator for the Brotherhood of Minisink Boys. I work closely with a group of about 20 to 30 young men in the neighborhood of Harlem conduction workshops on mentorship, community service, creating guidlines to achieve geared goals, personal develpment, and knowledge of self while aiding the young scholars to excel in their academics.

The Brotherhood of Minisink Boys (BOMB) initiative is designed to develop positive attitudes regarding family, peers, and community for boys ages nine - sixteen. Through a steady curriculum, boys are presented with a mixture of information, activities, and skills that help them to understand the connection of education, friendship, and family to their personal behaviors, while helping with a sense of awareness for "Self" and personal esteem. The BOMB is a multi-year training program assisting to prepare boys for the mental and physical changes that occur throughout adolescence. Each unit, which includes activites for all three age groups of BOMB Brothers, is intended to reinforce the knowledge of the year(s) that precede it. It is hoped that the Boys from this program develop a sincere bond of friendship among themselves and with there instructors and mentors. The units and topics touch several cultural, physical, and academic bases. They also incorporate the Nguzo Saba (Seven Principles of Kwanzaa), which is widely recognized as a stardard for Rites of Passage programs. The curriculum also aligns with that of the Order of the Feather Fraternity.

The testing and evaluation will be based on the completion of group projects, and documented in photographs, videos and written anecdotes.

The four units in the curriculum outlines are: Personal Development, Education, Fun & Friendship, and the Nguzo Saba.
