Winston Churchill said, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” I’ve always believed that the act of giving is more rewarding than the act of receiving, and when the time for me to choose a college major arrived I knew that I needed to find a major which would offer me the opportunity to give something back to my community. About two years ago I was very fortunate to receive a full scholarship, given by the Dominican Republic’s Secretariat of Higher Education, to attend Bronx Community College as a full-time student.  My life changed during my freshman year when I discovered I wanted to pursue a bachelor’s degree in psychology after I took an introductory psychology class at this institution. This class gave me some insight on the different psychological theories and also about certain aspects of both human behavior and development that I wasn't familiar with. This class, and other related courses I’ve taken, played an important role in shaping my character and who I am as a person today.

I feel passionate about becoming a Clinical Psychologist and I have a keen desire to learn more about Autism Syndrome, therefore, I would like to further my studies and engage in research on this syndrome. I want to pass on the knowledge to the young people who will become our future leaders and professionals, as I see a chain of knowledge that most be passed on and continue.  To achieve my goal I consider it is essential for me to interact in a more challenging and diverse educational environment. I believe that academic institutions such as Columbia University, New York University, Fairley Dickinson University, and Hunter College, have that and a lot more to offer.  All these schools are well known for their outstanding and prestigious academic foundations, for their rigorous academic programs, and for the many educational opportunities they offer to their students.  I definitely see myself investing all my potential in any of these institutions.
