Welcome to Writing + Experiencing Community Health!

Writing + Experiencing Community Health presents effective uses of writing and skills-based experiential education in community health classes as a way of ensuring students in the Community Health Certificate Program garner the core skills necessary to work within their communities.  The activities and assignments presented blend experiential pedagogy with WAC pedagogy and may be useful for any instructors in the Health, Physical, Education, & Wellness (HPEW) department, but are especially helpful for Writing Intensive (WI) sections.

This resource contains four sections: information on the core skills for Community Health Workers (CHWs), classroom activities, assignments and rubrics, and an introduction to why experiential education blended with writing is a useful pedogical approach. Sample activities and assignments, with the core skills nurtured, are provided.

What is the goal of this resource?

This ePortfolio provides community health instructors with assignment ideas and templates that enhance student engagement with course material, concepts, and their communities in a more meaningful and skills-based format.  Any of the assignments presented here can be easily adapted or modified for any content being covered across courses in the HPEW and CHW programs.
