Your Works Cited list will not mean anything to your reader if you have not inserted parenthetical citations, throughout your paper, to indicate where each quote, paraphrase, or specific piece of researched information came from. Your citations work hand-in-hand with the works cited list to help your reader see where your information came from and how they can access those resources if need be.

 

In other words, these humble little citations in parentheses really have quite an important job in a research project. How do you write them correctly?
