Dracula Monster of Antiquity and Adolf Hitler Modern Day Beast

Monsters from the Canon can be used as symbols to represent a variety of things.  The creatures in these works are sometimes put in place to explain events that are happening at that particular time. It often describes difficult and times of turmoil within a society that can only be represented by evil, which many view as being a monster.

A more direct example is Dracula in comparison to a Adolf Hitler. Which both are considered to be equally as bad and evil because of the method they use to complete their agendas.

As described in Stoker’s Dracula , when the character encounters Dracula for the first time the character’s attention is immediately caught by the strange good hospitality of Dracula. Unknowing this is a part of Dracula’s evil nature. Which led to Harker to “ The light and warmth and the Count’s courteous welcome seemed to dissipate all my doubts and fears” (Stoker Chapter 2) This is Dracula’s method of luring people and winning people’s trust, which gave him more authority and power over the person. While the other person might not be aware of any manipulation at all. This makes fear grow upon the person making them subject to the higher authority that imposed fear to them. " I began to fear as i wrote this book that I was getting too diffuse, nut now i am glad that I went into detail from the first, for there is something so strange about this place and all in it I cannot feel uneasy" (Stoker Chapter 2). This was another harship the character had to go through along with the manipulating stress Dracula impsed on his. This fear was so immense that the actual person himself was scared to speak out and say anything about their distress, as was Hitler's ability to arouse in his supporter's emotion of anger and hate often resulted in their commiting acts of violence. " I am all in sea of wonders. I doubt, I fear, I think strange things, which I dare not confess to my own soul" (Stoker Chapter 2) This fear and anxiety depicts exactly what Dracula"s final goal was which to incite fear within the person and making them feel uneasy in doing anything about it or to solve it.

In comparison to Hitler  which used his ability to manipulate people. To get people to go along with his ideals and principles, even when they seemed to be completely insane. Particularly using public speeches to get his message across to a large number of people at the same time, along with propaganda to unite people in hatred. Which had been triggered by the past world war and the agreement signed to pay for all the war debt. Hitler also knew how to please a  population instead of making an argument that goes against the other person‘s, so as in Dracula when Dracula himself would cater to Harker’s every need to make him feel safe at home. " Nay sir, upu are my guest. It is late and my people are not available. Let me see to your comfort myself" (Stoker Chapter 2) Dracula would use charismatic side of his personality to get what he wanted. It was like a veil he had covering his real side which was a blood-thirsty vampire. This highly contradicts Hitler's way of getting his point across and getting what he wanted.

Hitler had an ability to establish an arguement that stood on the other's side instead of going against it. He used the idea that the German people were memebers of a master race. This race, Aryans, was supposed to be physically, mentally and morally superior to all other human races. The German people loved the idea that they were special and being able to be categorized as a "better" race than any other. He made it easier for Germans to discover their hidden pride of nationalism. Of course the majority of Germans occupied the very top of the list. This method was effective in they way that it made it easier to finsih the goa ls in his agenda. " Hitler was a rationalist and materialist... what he interested Hitler was power, and his belief in providence or destiny was made on a pro jection of his own sense of power"(Sickinger) although Hitler owned and possed enough material wealth, but he found none to be more satisfying than to have control and power of people. In a sense these two individuals can be called smart for their cause.

Both Dracula's and Hitler's intentions were greedy and malevolent, and only to satisfy them, so few might embrace the suggestion of Hitler being regarded as smart or even a genius. They both had the ability to manipulate people easily. By luring the people they were interesed in. Dracula used his almost supernatural abillities to induce curiousity. Hitler had an ability to establish an argument that stood on the other’s side instead of going against his own, therefore Facilitating the goals in both their agendas. In a sense these two individuals can be called smart for their cause, but at the same time they were the epitome of anything that had to do with evil. Their intentions were greedy and only to satisfy themselves at the end. So few might embrace this suggestion.
