I am currently attending BCC to continue my Education to become a certified Educator. I am now in my final semester before graduating, and am accomplishing a goal. I have 5 years experience working with children ages 2-6, and I have two daugthers of my own. I am working at BCC as an e-Portfolio tutor and an Assistant Teacher for Education 10 courses.

To me, teaching children is more than just a job. It's a lifetime dedication to be involved in the lives of other children. They are the ones that grow up and become the adults of the future society. They should be taught the best learning skills academically so they can become intelligent and excell. But we need to educate our children in all areas, not just academically but socially as well. I have seen and heard too many children who get lost in the streets; cursing, fighting, having sex, and doing drugs before they even hit highschool! What are the chances of those children succeeding as adults? Very grim. We don't know if that child may have serious problems at home, or if they even live with their parents.

I was in fostercare for 12 years, I know what it means to be in the streets, trying to be independent and grown when in reality, I was just a little girl pretending to be an adult. What I needed was positive role models, someone to understand me and my situation.

Sometimes, even when the help is there, you may not know how or where to go about seeking social support. Schools and other outreach groups within the communities are a place to start. There are good-hearted individuals out there who can head you in the right direction and help you find your path in life.
