The Intentional and Purposeful ePortfolio: Roadmap to Success

Mercedes del Rosario, Rajendra Bhika – LaGuardia Community College

This presentation explores the use of ePortfolios as an interactive environment designed to help students successfully transfer to senior colleges and eventually complete their bachelor’s. Viewed from the combined prisms of ePortfolio as pedagogy and practice, it underscores the need for intentionality and purposefulness behind the enterprise of teaching and preparing the “whole” student to succeed. In particular, it aims to explore the use of ePortfolios as potential tools for retention, graduation and transfer. In addition, we seek to provide faculty a more intimate tool to gain relevant information about students that is integral to preparing them to succeed.

Active Transitions: Finding Your Place in College

Crossing the Threshold: Active Learning and ePortfolios at BCC and Beyond

Julia Rodas, Jordi Getman-Eraso – Bronx Community College

Integrating ePortfolios into coursework is a challenging task that often leads to perceptions of being an “add on” instead of “value added.” Through the introduction of pedagogical best practices that encourage faculty to rethink the structure and aims of their courses, we have stimulated innovative conceptual breakthroughs in the integration of ePortfolios in academic courses. This session will examine the faculty development program at Bronx Community College, concentrating specifically on the establishment of a new cross-campus collaborative connection that will allow students and faculty from different colleges to work together through ePortfolio.
